NoHo Continues as Prime Retail Space for Top Designers

NoHo is gaining on the heels of its sister neighborhood, SoHo, as more uber-chic retailers are converging on the area once highly known as a hideaway for writers and artists.

With more and more trendy boutiques joining the likes of Intermix and French Connection, its latest denizen is high-end designer Phillip Lim. Lim is leasing a 3,500-square-foot space previously owned by a furniture store on 48 Great Jones Street for his label, 3.1 Phillip Lim, which already boasts locations in Tokyo and Los Angeles, as well as a small place on Mercer.

NoHo, short for “North of Houston,” seems to be the perfect alternative for those wanting their boutique amidst an edgy atmosphere, something once akin only to SoHo. So why the change? Well, in SoHo retail space is going for $250 to $300 a square foot while in NoHo it’s going for under $200. This is a steal for such a prime location sandwiched between Greenwich and East Villages.

Lim is rumored to be showcasing at the upcoming Fashion Week and, in addition to his NoHo expansion unveiled today, his highly anticipated fall line for Target will be out sometime next month.
