Spike Lee Lists His Storied $32M Manse

Filmmaker Spike Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis Lee have listed their rather historical Upper East Side mansion for a jaw-dropping $32 million.

The sprawling modern Spanish Revival-style, two-bedroom, two-bathroom, 8,292-square-foot 153 East 63rd Street townhouse was purchased by the couple in 1998 from artist Jasper Johns. The 32-foot-wide home enjoys a gorgeous courtyard with a fountain that actually divides it in two. 

The home is steeped in history and has changed hands several times. It was originally a wedding gift in 1916 for William Vanderbilt's daughter, Barbara C. Rutherford. Broadway producer Charles B. Dillingham was its next owner, followed by aeronautical engineer Charles Lanier Lawrance who worked with the Wright brothers, and then burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee, and on to Ferrucio di Cori before making its way to Jasper Johns, and ultimately to Hollywood's Lee couple.

Lee also owns a two-acre estate in tony Martha's Vineyard as well as property in Brooklyn, which includes a three-story Fort Greene building that he uses for his production company 40 Acres and a Mule. 

Unfortunately, we can't tell if the home warrants a $32 million price tag until we see pictures of what it currently looks like inside, but it might just be that mind-blowingly awesome to command such an amount. We will just have to wait patiently and see--and yeah, we can't wait either.
