The iconic building at Broadway and 79th has been reconfigured to make room for 29 spacious and luxurious new homes. Completed in 2006, the new development covers the top four floors of the eight-story building. The lower floors remain in service as the Apple Bank. The Apple Bank, with its Florentine Palazzo construction, is a classic New York structure built in 1928. An updated and renovated lobby designed by Beyer Blinder Belle Architects, along with a restoration effort of the exterior, was all that was needed to welcome the new residents.
At the Apple Bank Building, each apartment offers a different layout, all with large galleries in the foyer. Some are duplexes, and several have terraces, making the choice of a residence at the Apple Bank a personal one. Residents will choose the layout, style, and space that best fits their needs and wants. The lack of spatial constraints gave Beyer Blinder Belle a lot to work with. Six of the residences are duplexes with roof terraces. Units range from 1,200-square foot two-bedrooms to 3,800-square foot three-bedrooms and have eleven- to eighteen-foot ceilings. Each unit comes with its own washer and dryer, gracious entry foyer, insulated dual window system, and oversized walk-in closets. Kitchens feature white wood cabinets with frosted glass panels, white Kashmir granite countertops, white ceramic subway tile backsplashes and top-of-the-line appliances by Sub-Zero, Viking and Bosch. Bathrooms feature custom dark walnut double vanities with Kohler sinks, separate stall showers and marble floors, walls, and countertops.
The lobby is attended 24 hours a day. Residents will enter into the restored lobby through the private entrance at 2112 Broadway. The building employs a 24-hour concierge, doorman, and superintendent to meet the needs of the residents. The development also offers a common industrial-sized laundry facility, a state-of-the-art gym, a dog grooming station, and a bicycle room. A singular amenity found at the Apple Bank Building is the daily delivery of mail to each residence. The building has no garage, but there is excellent public transportation in the area.
The Apple Bank Building is located in New York's Upper West Side. The Upper West side is an upscale, primarily residential area. The neighborhood has many options for gourmet dining and groceries, historical sites, religious and cultural institutions, and many good schools. Two subway lines serve the upper West Side, the IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line (1, 2, 3 trains) and the IND Eight Avenue Line (A, B, C, D trains). There are also plenty of bus routes through the area.
