Sundari Lofts and Towers, 158 Madison Avenue, is close to Madison Square Park, the Morgan Library, and the Post Office. The Asian-inspired building is a combination of an open loft with a full-story tower. There are fifty one- to three-bedroom residences, six penthouses, and two townhomes. The theory behind this resort is luxury hotel quality.
In addition to the infamous address, additional amenities include a 24-hour concierge and fitness center complete with a state-of-the-art cardio center, sky-lit 58-foot lap pool, eucalyptus-infused sauna, and personal golf, ski, and bike storage. At the center of the property, a zen-like reflection garden is open to all residents.
Murray Hill, Manhattan, was named for the Murray family. In the early 1700s Robert Murray from Ireland moved to Pennsylvania. He then came to Manhattan in the mid 1700s and became a major shipping merchant. In 1762, he leased land from the city for his house, which was built at what is now Park Avenue and 36th Street.
For most of the 20th century, Murray Hill was a quiet, upscale neighborhood with mostly older and wealthy residents. In the late 1990s, younger professionals made this area their home. In the late 2000s, many young college graduates were drawn and brought a livelier lifestyle to Murray Hill.
An interesting note is that due to its proximity to the United Nations headquarters and the many mansions, quite a few countries operate consulates in this area.
